The problem with education is that everyone blames the other
person for the issues that they are faced with. For example, if you ask parents, it's the teacher. If you ask the teachers,
it's the students; they're too wild. If you ask the school it's the teachers and the students, but they need more
money to run effectively.
Mike has asked his own children for an answer. They suggested that
the school year becomes longer, from 180 days to 210 days in the classroom setting. This way, shorter breaks are given to
the students throughout the school year, with about two week periods for vacations. To help this plan succeed, the school
districts can alternate summer breaks or vacations, so that the students are not out at once. For the teachers, they would
be compensated for the extra month of work, which would help with their income, over the time when they would normally not
be employed.
In Mike's experience, students have trouble returning to their routine after being
out of school for three months. Too much time is wasted on reviewing previous material. Previously, summer vacation was used
to give students the time to help on the families farms.
To put it into perspective, if
an adult would stop working for three months, then start back up where they left off, it would be hard to return to work without
retraining one's self for the tasks at hand.
